Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulbs

Compact fluorescent lamps are much more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs and last much longer, but State law prohibits compact fluorescent bulbs from being disposed of in the garbage due to the small amount of mercury they contain.  CFL’s can be recycled at OPU’s main office, FREE OF CHARGE, for our residential customers.  All hardware stores in Steele County and the Retrofit Companies recycle many other types of fluorescent lamps for a small fee.

For more information on recycling fluorescent bulbs, call the Steele County Recycling Hotline at 507-451-5443 or go to their website and type in “A to Z Disposal Guide” under search.
