Residential Security Lighting

Security Lights are available to OPU customers for the lighting of private property and alleys. This service is intended only for lighting residential sites, including duplexes, where normal street lighting is not provided by the city.  Service must be available from existing overhead or underground distribution facilities which have adequate capacity and suitable voltage.  Additional charges for early removal (less than one year) may apply.  For new installations, only LED options are available.

Street Lights – Public Streets

OPU installs and maintains street lights in Owatonna based on requests from the City Council. Spacing is based on traffic volume and development density along with other factors.

Requests for lights should be made through the City Administrators Office at (507) 444-4300.

Subdivision Street Lighting

Subdivision Street Lights are available to OPU customers for the lighting of public streets within a specific subdivision of other specifically – designated residential area. This service is intended only for lighting facilities other than the standard units covered under “STREET LIGHTS – PUBLIC STREETS”

MnDOT Highway Lighting

Highway Lights are available to Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) for the lighting of public highways.

City Parking Lot Security Lighting

Security Lights are available to the City of Owatonna for the lighting of public property other than streets. This service is intended only for lighting City-owned public parking lots.
