Journey Lineworker

Owatonna Public Utilities is seeking a journey lineworker. The successful candidate will safely perform electric distribution system construction and maintenance work on an electric de-energized and energized 12,700 volt distribution system serving 12,000+ customers.  Assists in the training and instruction of Apprentice Lineworkers.   Provides timely restoration of electric services to customers.

Qualifications for this position are:    

  • Electric Lineworker Technical Certificate/Degree is required.
  • Two (2) years performing electric distribution system construction and  maintenance work as a Journey Lineworker at an electric utility company is required. 
  • Minnesota Class “A” Commercial Drivers’ License is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is desired.
  • Work experience with Aerial Lift truck, Digger Derrick truck, trencher, skid loader, trench box, mini exavator 2-way radio is desired.
  • Position is on stand-by rotation with a 20 minute response time requirement.

Supervisor, Meter Services

This is your opportunity to join a dream team of enthusiastic, engaged leaders at one of the best municipal utilities in the country.  Your team of employees are dedicated to safety and the success of each other and the Owatonna Public Utilities.  We are a supplier of electricity, water, and natural gas services in Owatonna, Minnesota.  We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Supervisor, Meter Services.  This position is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the Meter Services Department.  These duties include the installation and maintenance of electric, water and natural gas meters, regulators, remote communication devices, AMI devices and supporting equipment, maintaining meter reading software programs to provide accurate readings for billing and develops/implements department procedures.

Qualifications for this position are:    

  • Associates (2 year) degree in Electronics, Business Management, or other related field is required.
  • Five (5) years’ experience working at a utility (electric, water, and/or natural gas) is required.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and databases is required.

OPU’s compensation and benefits are competitive and will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
