Electric Design Project Coordinator
The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for an Electric Design Project Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning and directing activities with the electric infrastructure design to ensure proper installation, operation, maintenance, and service. Duties include coordinating the projects from inception through completion which includes coordination between engineering, maintenance and construction, purchasing, stores, and accounting departments. Other duties include field staking and inspections, assists with designs, layouts, and drawings according to engineering specifications including re-designs, re-builds, and new development construction. This position assists the Director of Engineering in promoting, establishing and modifying electric engineering procedures, work processes, and standards to meet Owatonna Public Utilities’ goals and objectives.
Qualifications for this position are the following:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other closely related degree is required and two (2) years electric or related work experience is required.
Or:
2-year Degree/Certificate in the Electrical field is required i.e.; Electric Engineering, Electric Lineworker Program Degree/Certificate, Electrician Program Degree/Certificate or other related degree is required and four (4) years’ electric work experience is required. - Working knowledge of ESRI and AutoCad software, Microsoft word, Excel, and Access software programs is required.
- Working knowledge of design code and construction specifications for electric installations is required. Ability to interpret construction/architectural plans is required.
- Minnesota Class “D” Drivers’ License is required.

Associate Electric Engineer
The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for an Associate Electric Engineer. This position is responsible for performing general engineering support tasks related field engineering, maintaining engineering records/files, as-builts/GIS system records and assisting the coordination of new residential and commercial projects and services. Duties will include coordinating between the engineering, maintenance and construction, purchasing, stores and accounting departments within the utility on various projects and engineering tasks. This position assists the Electric Engineer in evaluating electric distribution system improvement needs and analyzing utility data to promote system efficiency, reliability and customer support. Other duties include performs field engineering, staking and inspections on the electric system and assists the Director of Engineering in promoting, establishing and modifying the electric engineering procedures, work processes, and standards to meet OPU goals and objectives.
Qualifications for this position are the following:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other closely related degree is required.
- Two (2) years electric or related work experience is desired.
- Working knowledge of ESRI and AutoCad software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software programs is required.
- Working knowledge of design code and construction specifications for electric installations is required. Ability to interpret construction/architectural plans is required.
- Minnesota Class “D” Drivers License is required.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License in the State of MN is preferred.

Meter Serviceworker
The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for a Meter Serviceworker. Duties of this position include the collection, transfer and editing of meter readings from the field to billing. Inventory, install, replace, test, calibrate and repair all devices involved with the measurement of electricity, water, natural gas including Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which OPU has implemented. Responds to customer service calls regarding metering issues and performs disconnection of utility services.
Qualifications for this position are the following:
- 2 Year Technical College degree is preferred in metering, electronics, electricity, natural gas, or other related degree. A combination of education and work experience will be considered,
- Work experience with an AMI metering at a Utility is a plus,
- 2 years’ work experience in the utility metering field preferred. Other combinations of training and/or documented experience will be considered,
- Proficient working in a windows operating system and at Microsoft Word and Excel,
- Ability to read blueprints & schematics,
- Testing & maintaining meters is a plus,
- Minnesota Class “D” Driver’s License is required.
