Manager, Electric Operations

The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for a Manager of Electric Operations and Dispatch.   The primary function of this position is to provide leadership and management of the electric distribution system, substations and dispatching of all service orders with prompt attention to restoration of electrical outages.   Oversees the bidding processes for all electric and substation projects ensuring all projects are in compliance with all bidding laws. Evaluates electric and substation system loads, reliability, contingency and future needs. Ensures all electric and substation contracted work is completed to contract specifications.

Serves as SMMPA Liaison for power generation, the gas turbine, and the Byron, Owatonna, Waseca and Faribault substations and transmission lines. Ensures substation maintenance complies with NERC/FERC Reliability standards.

Provides prompt attention to the restoration of services in the event of an interruption. 

Qualifications for this position are the following:

  • Associates degree in Power Distribution systems or Electric Lineworker certificate/degree is required.  Bachelor’s degree in Power Distribution Systems or related degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Five (5) years, work experience in Electric Power Distribution is required.
  • Journey Lineman work experience preferred.
  • Supervisor experience is required.
  • Valid State of Minnesota Class “D” driver’s license.
