Afterhours Serviceworker

The Owatonna Public Utilities has an opening in our Operations Department for an After-Hours Serviceworker who works 4 days a week, 10 hours per day, Monday-Thursday.  This position’s primary responsibility is to respond to customer requests. This position will perform various maintenance, inspection tasks and other duties necessary to respond electric, water, or natural gas customer requests daily.  Performs routine security checks on all OPU facilities insuring they are locked and secured after business hours.    

Qualifications for this position:

  • Electric Lineworker Technical Certificate/Degree is required.
  • Four plus (4+) years performing electric distribution system construction and maintenance work as a Journeyman Lineworker at an electric utility is required.
  • Work experience on natural gas and/or water distribution systems, and plumbing experience is desired
  • Valid Minnesota Class “A” Commercial Drivers’ License is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is desirable.
  • Work experience with Aerial Lift truck, Digger Derrick truck, and ground fault finder desirable
  • Working hours are Monday-Thursday – 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Position is on stand-by 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • A 20-minute standby response time is required for this position.

Gas/Water Engineering Technician

The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for an Gas/Water Engineering Technician.  This position performs field engineering, staking and inspections on the Natural Gas and Water Systems. Assists in gas/water designs, layouts, and drawings using CAD.

Qualifications for this position are the following:

  • Two (2) Degree/Certificate in an Engineering field is required
  • Two (2) years job experience at a gas and/or water utility company is required.
  • Valid Minnesota Class “D” Driver’s License is required.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, ESRI, and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

Electric Engineering Technician

The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for an Electric Engineering Technician.  This position performs field engineering, staking and inspections on our Electric Distribution Systems.  Assists with engineering layouts and drawings using CAD. Is liaison between the Utility, City, developers, builders, and contractors to insure new services and rebuilds are completed timely. Promptly responds to customer inquiries about their electric service.

Qualifications for this position are the following:

  • Two (2) year Certificate/Degree in Electrical field is required; ie Engineering, Electric Lineworker program, Electrician program, etc.
  • Two (2) years Electrical work experience is required.
  • Valid Minnesota Class “D” Drivers License is required.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI, CAD, Microsoft Office Suite is required.
