Owatonna Public Utilities Commission January 28, 2002 4:00 p.m.

 

The Owatonna Public Utilities Commission met in regular session in the Commission Room. Present were Commissioners Truelson, Moen, Emanuelson and Mayhew. Absent was Commissioner Schreiner. Also present were Finance Manager Bruno, City Administrator Sparks, Accountant Teresa Hottman and Administrative Assistant Tammy Schmoll. Jodi Kvaas from the Owatonna Peoples Press was also present.

Minutes

The Minutes from the rescheduled meeting of December 17, 2001 and the special budget meeting of December 10, 2001 were presented to the Commission. Commissioner Moen moved to accept the Minutes as presented. Commissioner Emanuelson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voting Aye, the motion passed.

Committee Reports

Personnel Committee - Commissioner Emanuelson reported the Personnel Committee met and discussed PERA contributions, comparable worth and expenses, manager goals as well as Martin Luther King Training Day.

Finance Committee - Commissioner Mayhew reported the Finance Committee met and reviewed the Vouchers and Financial Statements. Statements and Vouchers were recommended for approval.

Contributed Services

The Contributed Services report as of December 31, 2001 was presented to the Commission. The Commission signed the report.

General Manager's Report

Finance Manager Bruno reported OPU will be having a meeting with the local vendors who wish to be involved in the installation of the wireless Internet equipment. The target date to have the wireless internet program up and running is May 1, 2002.

Finance Manager Bruno further reported the compact fluorescent lighting rebate program will be implemented again and gave a recap from 2001. Mr. Bruno continued by giving a SMMPA load growth and windpower update.

Mr. Bruno concluded by remarking the Strategic Plan is available for the Commissioners to pick up.

City Administrator's Report

City Administrator Sparks reported City Council and City Staff are having a planning meeting on March 20th. He further reported the City Council, County and School Boards met with legislatures to discuss Governor Ventura's proposed plan. A brief discussion followed.

Commission Roundtable

Commissioner Emanuelson - I urge anyone who can to attend the MMUA Legislative Rally.

Commissioner Truelson - What auditing firm are we contracted with? Mr. Bruno replied, Olson, Thielen and Co. It was a three year contact with this being the last year.

Commissioner Mayhew - Nothing.

Commissioner Moen - Nothing.

Adjournment

There being no further business to come before the Commission, Commissioner Moen moved adjournment. Commissioner Mayhew seconded the motion. All Commissioners voting Aye, the meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
