Owatonna Public Utilities sponsors BOC I class coming to Austin in November
The Building Operator Certification (BOC) class, presented by Austin Utilities, Owatonna Public Utilities, and Rochester Public Utilities, long with 15 other SMMPA members and Minnesota Energy Resources, is a competency-based training and certification program that educates facility operators and managers on energy efficiency for all aspects of building management and maintenance.
The program content trains operators to identify and implement long term annual energy savings and electric peak demand reduction opportunities as an integral part of their operations and maintenance activities. As a certification program, the BOC seeks to establish a recognized professional credential for building operators.
BOC training is offered at two levels: Level I and Level II. Level I training emphasizes energy-efficient building maintenance practices. Level II stresses advanced equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

"The BOC course provided very good, general information that will help us maintain our equipment better and also save energy. The course raised by awareness of the simple things that can save energy, but often get overlooked. As a result, we are now doing things that will save energy that we had not thought of before" -- Tom Brage, Owatonna Hospital
The cost of the BOC training is $1,200 but participants who are employed by an Owatonna business sponsoring their tuition have the opportunity to earn back the full cost of tuition through our BOC Awards program:
COMPLETION AWARD - $300 award to each participant who completes the training and earns certification.
ANALYSIS AWARD - $300 award to participants for submitting a project analysis for a potential BOC AWARDS project.
PROJECT AWARD - $600 award to participants when the project they have previously submitted is completed by their employer.
